Carp – This evening as new and
returning members of the Huntley Curling Club registered for the 2004-2005
season, the Club thanked the Ontario Trillium Foundation for giving them a
$25,000 grant that allows them to go forward with repairs to their building’s
roof. MPP Norm Sterling and Tom
O’Neill of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Grant Review Team were also
there to congratulate the Club.
“This investment supports an
impressive local effort to make improvements to the club that will benefit the
entire community,” Sterling said. ”It not only means better conditions for
curlers, but also for those local groups that regularly use the building for
their meetings and events.”
In addition to this six-month grant
from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the local organization has been actively
fundraising in the community to cover the costs of the roof repairs and has
raised over $7,000. The roof
repairs will not only improve the ice conditions for curlers, the repairs are
more importantly saving the club money on energy costs and preventing structural
damage to the 25 year-old-building.
“The Huntley Curling Club is extremely honoured to have received such a
generous grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation,” said Judith Waddell,
past president of the Curling Club. “The funds will be used for the roof
replacement so we will have a great ice surface this year with no drips on it.
Being a highly active club in the community, our facility is in constant use
from mid October to mid April. Curlers seem to demand good curling ice and this
year we are proud to have the opportunity to address this problem. The Ontario
Trillium Foundation has earned our appreciation and respect for its support that
it has given us for this project.”
As this is the Club’s 25th Anniversary and they have many
extra activities scheduled as part of their celebrations. All events, including
the upcoming Open Community Bonspiel on October 23rd, are posted on
our website which is linked to the Ottawa Valley Curling Association’s
website. If you’re a resident of this community, you can enter the bonspiel by
