Sterling Sworn in for Ninth Consecutive Term as MPP

(Queen's Park, Toronto) - Norm Sterling was sworn is as MPP for Carleton-Mississippi Mills this morning. This marks the ninth consecutive term Mr. Sterling will serve as a Member of the Provincial Parliament in Ontario.

"I am honoured to once again represent the people of this great riding," said Mr. Sterling. "I will continue to work hard to ensure that the concerns and needs of Carleton-Mississippi Mills, and all of Eastern Ontario, are heard in the Ontario Legislature."

Mr. Sterling was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1977, and was re-elected on October 10th. Over his career he has served as Minister in nine different portfolios including Attorney General, Transportation, Consumer and Business Services and Environment. During the most recent term Mr. Sterling served as Opposition Critic for Democratic Renewal and Health Promotion and as Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.

Section 128 of the Constitution Act, 1867, requires that every member of the Legislative Assembly take the Oath of Allegiance before taking her or his seat in the Legislative Chamber. The Oath is administered by the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Deborah Deller.

"I want to thank the people of Carleton-Mississippi Mills for their support," said Mr. Sterling. "It is truly an honour and a privilege to represent them in the Ontario Legislature."
