STERLING URGES MCGUINTY LIBERALS TO KEEP LORD'S PRAYER IN ONTARIO LEGISLATURE
Sterling says McGuinty Liberals misguided priorities don't respect traditions

February 15, 2008 - (Kanata, Ontario) - Progressive Conservative Norm Sterling MPP (Carleton-Mississippi Mills) today urged Dalton McGuinty to scrap his plan to do away with the Lord's Prayer and respect the traditions of the Ontario Legislature.

"Our laws and institutions of parliament and justice were founded and developed on the principles of Christianity. As a result we have become a stable, caring and tolerant society," said Mr. Sterling. "While we respect other religions and beliefs and can move forward in parliament to do so, there is no need to abandon long lasting traditions of the past."

Sterling made the comments following a letter issued by Dalton McGuinty calling for the province to 'move beyond' the recitation of the Lord's Prayer in the Legislature.

"We should not forget what made us the great Province we are. It is important that we maintain and respect the traditions and history of the Ontario Legislature. Part of that tradition is keeping the Lord's Prayer," said Sterling.

Those wishing to express their concern on this issue can call Norm's constituency office at 613-599-3000 to obtain a petition on this matter.
